Memphis City Schools Teacher Named Tennessee Teacher of the Year

Allyson Chick, third grade teacher at Richland Elementary, was honored by her colleagues for her achievement as Tennessee Teacher of the Year at an appreciation banquet. The Teacher of Year is recognized statewide for his/her ability to challenge students academically and be creative in the teaching profession.

Chick incorporates technology into teaching by regularly posting on a class website to keep parents abreast of students’ assignments. She goes the extra mile for her students by providing translation for Latino students’ and families.

A board certified teacher in Memphis City Schools for 11 years, she serves as a Common Core coach, a Teach Plus fellow and received a top score of 5 on the Teacher Effectiveness Measure (TEM). In addition to Teacher of the Year, Chick was named the West Grand Division Teacher of the Year and will represent the state in the National Teacher of the Year competition in April 2013.
